Dave Norris, our very own unsung hero.
We were thrilled that as a result of the exposure of the IGA Unsung Hero Award program in our last newsletter that my oldest son's rugby union coach, David Norris from Wests Juniors Rugby Union Club was nominated for the award. He is a top guy who has dedicated 20 years to Junior Rugby and is a deserving winner in the IGA Unsung Hero Awards. As a parent, I particularly appreciate the measured and encouraging way he speaks to the team when coaching.
This is what was written in his nomination:-
"For the past 20 years, David has devoted his life tirelessly to Junior Rugby Union. His role at both club and representative levels as coach, referee, manager and executive committee member have built a reputation of tremendous respect. This reputation assists with his role with the ACT Junior Rugby Judiciary.
His time is always given generously. He is the first to volunteer for any fundraising regardless of the cause. His committed and enthusiastic efforts were integral in the successful campaign to send our boys to France for the Junior Rugby World Cup and this effort is replicated every year for the annual club Under 13’s tour to New Zealand.
David leads by example and mentors boys on and off the field. He assists them with employment opportunities, life skills and the importance of fitness through sport and particularly Rugby. David’s development of youth has seen many boys reach their goals, including some Super 14 and Wallabies players.
David has no expectation of gratitude. Self satisfaction and the friends he has made is his reward for the endless hours dedicated to the sport. His work develops our youth into fine rugby players but also makes them good, responsible men who will make their mark in the community."
Unfortunately Dave didn't progress to the next level but congratulations to Jean Willmington from Luddenham for becoming the NSW Unsung Hero.
