pexels-photo-433617 (1)If you want to boost your NFP’s online impact, then you have to reassess what you are doing. It all comes down to your understanding of what your nonprofit is trying to achieve, quality content and the sharing of the information as far and as wide as you can.

Quality Content

If you want to make the most of your online content, then you have to pull out all the stops. The first step is the creation of well-written content to ensure that your followers want to read it. Make it useful. Make it interesting. Make it relevant. Have a team of writers and share the load if it is too much for one person to come up with interesting storylines; plus, it will highlight just how diverse your NFP is.

Regular Content

Get into the habit of writing and posting to your website on a regular basis. Your followers will come to expect it of you and will wonder what is going on if you begin to post sporadically. Aim for bi-weekly or weekly posts as a minimum to give your viewers something to read. Search engines love original new content and will reward you highly. If possible, post on roughly the same day every week as a standard to get into the habit.

Social Media

Share your content through as many marketing channels as possible. Share it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Google+. Create a conversation and get people talking. It is perfectly fine to duplicate content across your social media channels as it reinforces your message and your brand. Do not feel you need to have original content for each separate form of social media. Don’t be afraid to share older blog posts to keep people coming back to your page. The aim is to increase engagement and start a conversation.

Email Marketing

While you are blogging and spreading the word about your NFP on your social media, don’t forget email marketing. It is extremely practical and very affordable. Stick to one or two emails per month and the occasional special notice in between to freshen things up. Don’t forget to ensure that your marketing newsletters are suitable for mobile browsers as well as they are indeed our future.

Know Your Goals

Shares and likes are wonderful but is that what you are truly seeking from your social media? As an NFP, perhaps your main motivation is fundraising? If this is the case, it is important that you are always referring potential donors and supporters back to your main website or your donation/fundraising page. Continue to share your stories, your aims and successes but don’t forget your need to bring in the donations as well.

Go Visual

Add as many photos as you can to the posts to make it attractive and engaging. If your visitors are stuck looking at a full page of text, then it will not appeal as much as a page filled with suitable photographs will. Try to stay away from stock images and share real-life photos to get attention. Tell your story with your words and photographs to captivate their imagination.
