No one is immune to mental illness, and unlike some other illnesses, mental health problems can be invisible and are heavily stigmatised in some portions of society. It can seem at the least awkward, at most, verging on impossible, to assist someone who is suffering. And if you are suffering yourself from depression or anxiety, it can be very hard to reach out for help.

Fortunately, beyondblue is, year after year, getting word out that help is available. This year Australian Not for Profit organisations can receive subsidised mental health workplace training sessions from beyondblue to help workers get help when they need it and enjoy the best quality of life they can.

Expiring on June 30, the offer is $300 training courses to educate staff about depression and anxiety, how the conditions affect the workplace and how to support colleagues who are experiencing difficulties. Not for Profit organisations and Australian small and medium businesses (up to 199 employees) can apply to have a course presented at their establishment.

There are five different training courses in beyondblue’s National Workplace Program, each designed to meet the needs of people in various positions in their organisations. Overall, the initiative has been developed to address the need for mental health awareness and care to the Australian workforce.

Improved mental health not only benefits individuals and their families, but has enormous impact on productivity in the workplace. beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman says “..healthy employees take fewer sick days, file fewer compensation claims and are more productive at work than employees who are unwell. Therefore, investing in mental health is a win-win for both employees and employers, and workplace mental health is one of the easiest things an employer can implement to improve mental health in the workplace.”
