grants availableDoes your Not-for-Profit (NFP) do work that improves the wellbeing and health of children in your community? Then you and your board might be interested to learn about a new grants program, called the Small Seeds Community Grant.

The grant is being offered by Whole Kids, which is the first Australian food company to become certified as a B Corporation. The business is a small family run company that specialises in offering healthy and organic products for children.

The company plans to commit at least 1% of their gross sales each quarter to the program. Approved grants will range from $500 and up to $5,000 for a single project by an NFP that seeks to improve the lives of children and their parents at the local level.

Preference is given to proposals by NFPs that seek full funding at a smaller amount so that a diverse range of projects can be funded during each round. Currently, the company plans to fund five or six projects with the grants during each quarter.

The first round of grant funding opened on April 1st and will close on June 30th. Applicants that are approved are notified the month after the round closes.

The company would like to focus on approving grants for projects that help children in the following areas:

  • Protect natural resources, the environment, and wildlife for current and future children.
  • Facilitate learning and create greater access to educational opportunities for children.
  • Reduce health hazards to children from the environment.
  • Create safer places for recreation for children to play and enjoy.
  • Create greater access to healthy, nutritional food for children.
  • Strengthen communities for children and their families.
  • Promote and improve children’s wellbeing and mental health.
  • Protect the human rights of children in the community and promote social justice.

There are few NFPs that can’t benefit from additional funding. If your NFP has a project that fits one of these service areas in a community in Australia, you may want to consider applying for a grant.

When you apply for your NFP, you may make one application for each single, specific project for your NFP, but no more than one application will be accepted per project, and only one grant will be awarded per project, should the application be approved.
