If it is your intention to plan a fundraiser, you may be constrained by tight budgets and guidelines. Despite the lack of cash flow, your nonprofit can still manage to create a successful fundraising event by following these tips.

Brainstorm ideas

Many great ideas come out of a brainstorming meeting. Tell everyone about the brainstorming session and request that they do a bit of solo research beforehand to get the ideas flowing. That way no one comes to the brainstorming table empty handed. Consider free and low-cost options first and foremost to try to get more bang for your buck. It may be necessary to hold a number of complementary events and opportunities to maximise those dollars.

Partner with another charity

Connecting with other charities and sharing an event is a great way to get the word out. It can also reduce the cost of the overall event if it is your intention to split the expenses. With two or more charities marketing an event, you may be exposing yourself to a wider audience. While it may not be an option for everyone, it is definitely worth considering as a way to save money.

Utilise social media

With tight budgets, social media will be your best friend. Market your events on Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Ask your connections to spread the word to encourage people to come out and support your event. You may also find that a number of your contacts on social media are willing to sponsor your event or provide discounted services to help your cause.

Make it a fun experience

While guests will want to ensure that most of the money is going to the charity to use for a particular cause, they will still expect to have a good time at your event. Try to source entertainment that is free or offered at a reduced price to assist your minimal budget. You want people to enjoy the experience, so they are more willing to come to the next event you intend to hold in the future.

Consider unique venues

Renting a space is generally one of the most expensive costs that come with a fundraiser. Think outside of the box and source something a little unique that doesn’t come with an expensive price tag. Introducing new clientele to the new restaurant in town may benefit everyone and be great PR for all involved.

Send out online invitations

Rather than waste money on postage, send out online invitations. It will cut down on the cost of sending invitations out to interested parties and reduce the time it takes to receive a reply. There are many online services that are very affordable such as Sendo, Evite or Green Envelope.
