strategise

Take some of the guesswork out of your systems by approaching it from a more planned point of view. As all NFPs need to have some kind of strategy in place in order to meets its goals and fulfil its mission, we share our tips on how to strategise for the future.

SWOT Analysis

As with any organisation, understanding your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats is necessary to deal with any possible impediments in your way. Do away with the rose-coloured glasses and maintain a clearer purpose for your actions. Don’t do this once and then forget it. Revisit it often as a kind of quick check-up to see how things are progressing.

Decision-making Matrix

The decision-making matrix is a visual tool that plots all the NFPs programs and activities into one image. The illustration then provides an overall picture of the activities including the financials and how they impact other areas of the business.

Cost-Benefit Analysis

Cost-benefit analysis can be very helpful for NFP to determine which specific programs may provide the most service for the costs specified. Not every project is viable. A cost-benefit analysis provides a structure to assist with the decision making from a calculated perspective.

Business Plan

A business plan can be a useful tool for your non-profit and needs to be updated at least every twelve months. A lot can happen within the span of one year, and you need to determine whether your actions are a reflection of your initial expectations. Revisit it occasionally to see where you are and how you are progressing.

The importance of any such plan is that they don’t sit on the shelf and gather dust. This can be a complete waste of your resources, particularly if it happens on a regular basis. To set yourself up for future success, you need to understand some of the possibilities that lay ahead. But be realistic. There is no point planning for options that are clearly not grounded in reality.
