nonprofitIf you are considering volunteering with an NFP as a volunteer treasurer or in any other capacity, then there are plenty of great reasons to do so. With over 50,000 registered charities in Australia and over 600,000 nonprofits, that gives you plenty of options for volunteering. The benefits of giving your time, both directly and indirectly, are definitely worth it. If you are considering volunteering at your favourite nonprofit as an individual, or even as an organisation, here are three great reasons.

Number 1: The passion is contagious

People who work at NFPs are usually passionate about what they do, and that passion can often rub off on those who volunteer there. By volunteering, you can help the organisation further their mission and expand the good they are accomplishing. You can be happy in the knowledge that the work you, or your staff, is doing, is benefiting the nonprofit directly.

Number 2: You can build your resume

While it may not be the only reason, volunteering at a nonprofit will look great on your, or your team’s, CV. You can move into areas that you are not doing in your full-time position to enhance your experience. Or you may even find an area of business which you never considered in the past, which may ultimately change the direction of your future. You can safely rest in the knowledge that you are building on your skills while helping others at the same time. Definitely a win-win!

Number 3: You can directly help the community and further the work of nonprofits

By giving up your time or even your staff, you are impacting the local community and the nation as a whole. By working for an NFP, charity or other organisation aiding social justice, you can help increase their revenues and profits, without them having to pay you anything directly. If you are working from an organisational capacity, then you may find that your business will increase as others see that you directly support their causes and have similar values.
