blogging

Have you ever considered the financial benefits of blogging for your club?

Even if your club is only small, creating a blog and populating it with interesting content on a regular basis can actually result in increased income.

Here are three ways a blog can help your club grow.

1.  Can attract new members at any time of night or day.

Like all digital media, a blog will work for you 24/7.  You don’t have to be on hand all the time to attract new supporters and encourage them to sign up for membership.

Catch them while they are hot! By adding a simple membership form and linking it to PayPal or some other payment processor, a reader can become an instant member of the club.

2.  Brings you closer to your supporters.

Take a look at the blog on the Collingwood Football Club site. It is called “News” and it shares information about the team, the players, what goes on behind the scenes, where players have been seen in print and much more.  It can include video footage, team fixtures and post-match reviews which is certain to provoke conversation – and that’s the aim of a blog.

A good blog can make supporters feel that they are as much a part of the club as the players are. It allows them to live and breathe the club life whenever they want to.  That means you can offer team paraphernalia for sale, make them special offers and bring in sales purely by making them feel as special as they really are.

3.  Branding.

A key reason sports brands are so successful is the relationship they have with each of their consumers, or fans. Being a sports fan—and loving a team brand—transcends a person’s job, family or social status.” (Barry Silverstein, Brand Channel)

He goes on to say that identifying with a particular team brand is a strong fan motivator. We know that just by looking at the big sporting events around the world. Team colours are worn as jumpers flags, or even face paint.  The more clearly you can present your brand, the more likely it is to inspire loyalty.  New memberships, sales of team gear and support at events all translate into more money for your club.

If a blog can do all this, isn’t it time you thought about introducing a blog for your club?
