Whether you have been a treasurer for a long time or have just recently been appointed, you will find the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is a great site for some valuable resources.

The ATO has a dedicated section of resources for Non Profit Organisations that covers a number of issues including recent reforms, a news service as well as general information for administrators.  Also worth looking at is the link to the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission (ACNC) that was recently established and only commenced operation in December 2012.

The ACNC is responsible for determining the charitable status of organisations and covers other issues such as income tax, FBT and GST exemptions and concessions as well as any deductible gift recipient status issues.  As such, if your organisation needs to make any application, discuss or resolve an issue that relates to any of these issues then you will now need to contact the ACNC.

As mentioned above, the Non Profit News Service is worth subscribing to as you will receive up to date information on issues relating to the non profit sector.  When you subscribe to this service you can elect to receive updates via your email on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

These resources are valuable and worth reviewing as they will assist you and provide some useful information.
