video contentWhile you may be blogging on a regular basis, did you know that you may be failing to connect with your audience by not posting video content?

Video, as a medium, is definitely compelling – just ask the movie industry. There was a reason they moved away from silent movies and started producing talkies – we wanted to see more, learn more and ultimately hear more.

Video has the power to grab a viewer’s attention from the get go. While people flip in and out of websites featuring heavy text content after only a few seconds, a video can compel them to watch almost immediately. Moving images speak to us on a much deeper level than static images ever could.

A video can communicate your emotion and allow you to tell your story. It can demonstrate your passion for your nonprofit and entice the viewer to listen to your story.

Videos can be released in real-time to enable you to connect with your donors and sponsors. It can increase the impact and deepen your relationships. Facebook Live and Periscope, a live video streaming program, make the release of real-time videos extremely easy.

Thankfully the ability to create, edit and upload videos is incredibly simple. You can do it with your desktop computer, your laptop, your tablet or even your Smartphone. When uploading your video, be clear about your video’s title and description. Add your nonprofit’s URL wherever possible and caption your video for those who prefer to watch without sound or have hearing problems.

As a tip, don’t forget these three simple things:

Hook them – show them the benefit of helping your cause

Keep them watching – make your NFP’s video interesting to hold their attention

Ask for their help – demonstrate how they can make a difference to your fundraising efforts

You don’t have to be Steven Spielberg to release interesting content. Just be clear, concise and offer compelling video content. The reality is that practice will make perfect.

So, if you haven’t started making video content yet, think about what’s really stopping you!

We can’t wait to see your video creations.
