education of directorsExciting times are ahead for NFP Directors as the Melbourne-based social enterprise, Our Community, has established the Institute of Community Directors Australia, which will offer a diploma course  tailored to directors who serve on NFP boards.  And the latest figures show that approximately one thousand people are set to attend the nation’s first educational institution devoted to training directors in the not-for-profit sector.

“There are training courses for company directors, such as the AICD course, but no courses that offer accreditation that is specifically tailored for community board directors,” said Carol Schwartz, Our Community Chairwoman.

The Diploma of Business (Governance) as it otherwise known is comparatively cheaper than AICD courses being offered which is positive news to NFPs all around the country.

Carol goes on to say, “We will be providing those courses at an affordable price as well as making sure scholarships are available.” She also says the new course will “complement” rather than compete with the AICD.

Denis Moriarty, Director of Training & Development adds, “We are about improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the NFP sector,”

The courses are being held Australia wide so visit the Community Directors Australia website for more details:  https://www.communitydirectors.com.au/icda/courses/.
