National Volunteering ConferenceThe 2016 National Volunteering Conference is offering scholarships to representatives of regional and volunteer led community groups. With assistance from the Department of Social Services, representatives of low socio economic groups and people who would otherwise be unable to attend will be able to benefit from a full conference agenda.

Community leaders, managers, NFP leaders and members of voluntary and community organsiations are welcome to apply to state and territory representatives listed on the National Volunteering Conference site. Applicants will be asked to confirm they are unable to meet cost associated with attending the conference and also describe how their organisation and community would benefit from their attendance.

The conference caters especially to Australia’s not for profit leaders, volunteer managers and policy contributors and is an opportunity to connect and learn about volunteering leadership. There is a focus on building a positive environment, and finding solutions to issues volunteering organisations face.

There are several keynote speakers scheduled to attend the conference, each with their own expertise and message to share. Robyn Moore, actor, speaker and national patron of Make-A-Wish Australia is known for her positive, motivating messages. Dr Brendan Nelson has held several high profile posts in his time including the National President of the Australian Medical Association and is currently the Director of the Australian War Memorial. Susan J. Ellis has over thirty years experience leading an interenational training, consulting and publishing firm with a focus on volunteerism. She is also an author and writes a monthly “Hot Topic” essay for her website.

The conference is also a chance to strengthen skills and network with volunteering specialists from around Australia. It runs in Canberra April 6-8, and applications for a scholarship attendance spot close September 18, 2015.
